Alex P I love this ENTIRE album!!! How to chose a favourite (Well Read Baby?!) Keenan's album is a tour de force of songs that were written now, but he's so totally internalized the style that they sound like they are from another century! The musicianship, arrangements, and the voice of Laura Windley are great. This is my fave vocal showing from Laura, too! (and she has lots of great records) Can't recommend this highly enough

Kendrick Wallace Joyful swinging music for dancers and lovers of 30s and 40s Jazz. Thanks for keeping this art form alive. Favorite track: Forged in Rhythm.

Eyre Old and somehow new, insanely clever and somehow only took a weekend to pull together!!? Really excellent music in every way. Favorite track: My Well-Read Baby.

I've got a man you haven't met But he's perfectly charming and sweet He's saved me a kiss I'd have to bet For the next time that we meet After the tour, I'll fly out west And we'll be together again But for now, I'll write my very best And I'll count the days 'till then My new romance is transcontinental Sea to shining sea Although you think it's all incidental We're happy as can be He signs his cards with hearts I return them all in kind He keeps my locket 'round his neck And I keep him on my mind The modern ways are now instrumental For love affairs to last Forgive me if I'm not sentimental Tradition is the past I can fly in the sky, to see my guy He's the one I want to most My new romance is transcontinental I love him coast to coast

If you wanna be my honey bee You gotta show some wit and charm You don't have to be from the Ivy League If you say the right words when you're in my arms, so Philosophize me, Socrates me Write me a sonnet or a song With some rhetoric and rhyme, It won't take you any time You'll be me well-read baby from now on, yes My well-read baby from now on *** Show me stacks of play in three acts And darling never will I roam For the man I'm gonna marry needs a broad vocabulary I want a well-read baby to call my own, sweetheart A well-read baby to call my own *** If you're anything lesser that a tenured professor You better quote me Emily Dickinson on the phone 'Cause if you're Thomas, Dick or Harry, I hope you own your own library I want a well-read baby to call my own, yes A well-read baby to call my own

If I wrote a song for you, sweetheart It would keep me company With its winsome melody In summer rain Well the verse would play its part Tell our story from the start Then I'd warm my tender heart With each refrain Let me take us note by note, floating On a tune as shimmery As the weathered memory Of love still new But there's a problem 'round the bend I don't think the song could end It's time I'd gladly spend If I wrote a song for you

You're callous and your kind You can't make up your mind I wish you'd treat me right Now it's Friday night And you can't be found So if you want me and love me true Why don't you keep me around? You're fickle and you're fun But not the only one I think you've figured wrong Because I've sung this song Too many times before So when you're ready to leave me, dear Go on and get out the door *** So now you wanna go I wish you'd let me know I hope you've had your fill Well to quote old Bill "Parting is such sweet sorrow" Because I'll find me another Romeo When I wake up tomorrow

Down in the valley where I was born My dear folks they would play Some good old tunes their parents knew And songs from far away My mama plays old time guitar With a perfect pulse in every bar The beat will get you where you are I was forged in rhythm My old man he fiddles good as sin But don't call that thing a "violin" Four potatoes and you're in I was forged in rhythm I met someone who cuts a rug When the music starts to jump Now when my baby smiles at my My heart goes thump thump thump Before the kids were in the band They hailed from all across the land BUT THERE'S A BEAT THAT WE DEMAND We were forged in rhythm

I hear what my heart has told me I'm happy, as the years have shown I don't need arms to hold me But it's cold when I'm here alone All of my friends are hitchin' But I've followed a path of my own Can't spare no time for courtin' Though it's cold when I'm here alone You can keep your songs of righted wrongs Of soulmates and chivalry If "love is blind," then I don't mind Missing out, so I can see Someday romance will find me It's not like I'm carved from stone Don't send me names of potential flames Though it's cold when I'm here alone *** Keep your songs of righted wrongs Of soulmates and chivalry If "love is blind," then I don't mind Missing out, so I can see Someday romance will find me It's not like I'm carved from stone Don't send me names of potential flames Though it's cold when I'm here alone

Strolling 'cross the sand We're so happy hand in hand Think how charming it would be In the dwindling light by the sea Darling if I may Take us dancing by the bay Picture you so close to me In the dwindling light by the sea The band plays our favorite tune And you smile, and I swoon The sun dips below the sky A breeze rolls in with a gentle sigh Watching golden waves 'Till one of us misbehaves Nothing sounds as fine to me As the dwindling light by the sea *** You dear, at my side I could search both far and wide But nothing sounds as fine to me As the dwindling light by the sea As the dwindling light by the sea
